Welcome to the Anime Waves guide to IRC. Hopefully
this will help you all who don't know how to use IRC and
want to download Anime Waves manga scanlations from somewhere
other than BitTorrent.
First
things first, you need an IRC client:
Q:
What's a client?
A: It's a program that allows you to connect to IRC networks.
Q:
Where can I get one?
A: There are a number of places to get one, also a number
of different clients. For this intro to IRC, let's use the
most common script, and the easiest to use for people new
to IRC. SysReset.
Q:
SysReset? What's that?
A: It is an IRC client.
Q:
Ok, where can I get SysReset?
A: You can get it at www.sysreset.com - Click "Download"
at the top of the page, and click "Sysreset Full Installation
pack".
Q:
I have it downloaded...now what?
A: Double click on the .exe file that was downloaded (wherever
you downloaded it to), and follow the installation instructions.
Q:
It's installed, now what?
A: Now, go to where it was installed (standard installation
path is C:\sysreset) and double click "mirc.exe"
Q:
Alright, the program is running...but I get this box saying
something about an "evaluation period", what do
I do?
A: Just click on the "continue" button.
Q:
What about if my evaluation time runs out?
A: Don't worry, it will still run, just give it a second,
and you'll be able to click the "continue" button.
Q:
OK, I've gone passed the evaluation period notice, some
text goes past and another box pops up with "Name"
and such, what do I do now?
A: Now you need to set up SysReset to connect to the Rizon
network, so that you are able to download. I'll explain
this in easy to follow steps.
Step
1: You can fill in some bogus information for your name
and e-mail address. As for your nickname, you'll need something
there. Think of a nickname and type it in the "Nickname"
box, then type in another in the "Alternative"
box. The "Alternative" nickname is used if your
first choice is already in use by someone.
Step
2: Click the small + in the left white box, beside "Connect".
A new list will drop down, click once on "Servers".
Click the dropdown under the heading "IRC Network",
and scroll down until you come to "Rizon", click
on "Rizon". Click the "OK" button.
Q:
OK, I've set up SysReset. Now what?
A: Now, you're ready to connect to Rizon. Click the "lightning
bolt" in the top left corner of the sysreset window,
just under "File".
Q:
I'm connected! Now, how do I download AW manga?
A: Hang on, there's one other thing before you can do that.
Type in "/msg nickserv register <password> <e-mail>"
without the quotations. Where "<password>"
is the password you'll use to login, and "<e-mail>"
is where you have to put a legitimate e-mail, meaning; your
real one. This is required because, Rizon has brought in
an authorization system. It sends an authorization code
to your e-mail. Once you get that e-mail, follow it's instructions.
Once done with that, continue with this guide.
Q:
It says that I set mode "+R", what's that?
A: That means that you are now registered with Rizon.
Q:
Ok! How do I get to AnimeWaves?
A: type in "/join #animewaves" without the quotations.
Q:
I'm in the channel! Yay! How do I download the manga?
A: This is the easiest part of all you've done.
Step
1: type in "//mode $me -x" without the quotations,
and make sure there's 2 slashes, otherwise the command won't
work. (the network "Rizon" automatically puts
a mask on your ip address when you connect to it. This has
been known to cause many problems with file transfers. Just
type that in and things -should- work.)
Step
2: In the channel, type "!xdcc" without the quotations.
You should get a message similar to this: "-BadAndy-
Bot list at ../botlist.htm", double click on the URL
shown.
Q:
I get a warning about clicking links, is this a bad thing?
A: No, for this URL you can click the "Yes" button
and go to the webpage.
Q:
I clicked "Yes" and it opened a webpage in my
browser that has a list of manga, what do I do with it?
A: Look for the manga you want to download.
Q:
I've found the manga I want, how do I download it.
A: Again, I'll explain this in easy to follow steps.
Step
1: Look for the "pack number". An example is:
under the bot name "AW|Saya", "#6 0x [5.7M]
[AW]_Monster_Collection_v06_c32.zip", where "#6"
is the "pack number".
Step
2: Go back to IRC and in the AnimeWaves channel, type "/msg
<nickname of the bot> xdcc send <pack number of
the manga you want>" without the quotations. Using
the example above, what you type would look like this: "/msg
AW|Saya xdcc send #6" without the quotations, hit the
"Enter" key on your keyboard once that's typed
in.
Step
3: If you did this correctly, then the download should automatically
start, and finish soon (unless you're on a dial-up or 56k
internet connection, then it will take a little longer).
All you have to do now is wait for it to finish.
Q:
It finished downloading! Where do I find the file so I can
read the manga?
A: If you didn't change the path of where SysReset installed
(in the beginning of this guide), then the file would be
in "C:\sysreset\download". Find it and open it
up!
There,
you can now download AnimeWave's new releases from IRC.
I hope this guide was helpful to you.
If
there are still anymore questions that you do not understand
and would like to ask. Just kindly ask in the channel and
someone who knows the answer will kindly give you an answer.
